New collaboration aims to introduce innovative, protein-rich plant-based foods starting with a revamped Kimbap.
In a groundbreaking move to bolster the alternative protein market, Zikooin Company, known for its UNLIMEAT plant-based meat products, is partnering with JUST Egg, a U.S.-based leader in the plant-based egg industry. The two companies have announced a brand license agreement to develop new culinary offerings featuring JUST Egg's signature folded plant-based eggs.
Revolutionizing Traditional Korean Dish
The partnership's first foray into co-branded items is a modern take on the classic Korean dish, Kimbap. Known as the '100% Plant Protein Bomb Kimbap,' this new rendition incorporates JUST Egg's folded eggs alongside a variety of UNLIMEAT’s plant-based products including sausage patties and cheese. Unlike traditional Kimbap, which typically includes a variety of vegetables and meats, the new product aims to provide a high-protein, fully vegan alternative. Starting in September, this novel Kimbap will be available for delivery and sale in Seoul's upscale Gangnam district.
Expanding Breakfast Choices
Following the Kimbap launch, the companies have plans to introduce a vegan breakfast sandwich targeted at U.S. consumers. This handheld meal will include a Korean-style Tteokgalbi (grilled short rib) patty based on soybean protein, paired with vegan cheese and JUST Egg. The patty is enhanced with a burst of umami flavor, featuring ingredients like onions, garlic, and green onions.
Aligned Missions for Sustainable Future
Both UNLIMEAT and JUST Egg have been recognized for their commitment to creating environmentally sustainable and health-conscious products. JUST Egg, a division of Eat Just Inc., has revolutionized the plant-based egg market with its proprietary mung bean-based formula, offering a smaller environmental footprint and no cholesterol.
Zikooin Company has been at the forefront of Korea’s alternative meat market, expanding its UNLIMEAT brand to include a wide array of products ranging from plant-based Korean BBQ and pulled pork to vegan cheeses and even a plant-based tuna product.
“A shared mission for a healthier, safer, and more sustainable food system makes this collaboration a natural fit,” said a representative from UNLIMEAT. “This partnership will allow us to expand the range of choices for consumers who are looking for delicious and sustainable vegan options.”
Market Trends and Future Plans
The partnership comes at a time when consumer demand for alternative protein products is on the rise both in the U.S. and Korea. By combining their strengths, UNLIMEAT and JUST Egg aim to seize this opportunity to develop a variety of innovative products that are not only palatable but also planet-friendly.
